McNulty Brags About Wasting Money
First McNulty votes for the war in Iraq. Then he stands by the war for a long time. A few months ago (at most) he decides we should never have gone to war, calling it the biggest blunder in military history. And just this past week, he not only voted to approve more spending for the Iraq war, he's actually bragging about voting for it in a press release: http://www.house.gov/mcnulty/pr060927.htm
His press release is spin on how much money of this $448 billion waste of money comes into our district: $16 million. Let's see. $448 billion, divided by 435 congressional districts, equals a bit over $1 Billion. And he's bragging about bringing home $16 Million - 1.6% of what would be average.
Someday I'll figure out why he gets a free pass on all this from the media.

Bravo!
Although I support Gillibrand, pork drives me nuts. I'd love to see you bring McNulty down over his mindless porkage - war and otherwise.
And although I like that Gillbrands' wants to withdrawl from Iraq, she's not said anything about cutting the millitary budget, asside from closing bases in Iraq.
No kidding!
Here's how military spending would be increased (Gillbrand2006 website):
1) Double the number of special forces in the military.
2) More educational grants (for servicemen)
3) Improve healthcare (many are now being turned away at VA hospitals)
4) Adequaely fund gear and supplies (you've heard of shortages of body and vehicle armor, for example)
I mean, this all sounds good.. until you realize the existing insane budget does not allow for it!
I have yet to hear anything about cuts, such as:
1) Withdrawing from stupid places, such as defending wealthy S.Korea and Japan. (Great idea, Warren!)
2) Halting research on ever-more high tech weapons, vehicles and equipment (as if USA isn't overpowered enough!)
3) Eliminating the proposed outrageous "Future Combat System" (already estimated to cost $200 Billion, before the usual budget overuns).
It's a sad day, when a "progressive" Democrat wants to increase Bush's military spending. Even sadder that a leftie like myself feels he must vote for her...
One last thing I want to ask... where are the wing-nut neocons? Why so silent? Won't they thank Gillbrand for "staying the course" in military spending? Or maybe do an Ann Coulter: try to invent proof of plans for cutting? I'm desperately searching for cuts, but I'm not seeing any on her website...
